Mr Lim Chai Kiui is the founder of Kim Soon Lee and has been its Managing Director since its inception in 1968. Kim Soon Lee started with one Chevrolet lorry in 1968 which expanded steadily to over 180 Lorries, Prime Movers, Crane and Trailers of various types by the turn of the 21st century. The breakthrough for Kim Soon Lee was in the mid-1970s when Mr Lim purchased his first unit of Prime Mover and Flatbed Trailer. This was followed rapidly by the second and third units of Prime Movers and over 10 units of Flatbed as well as Lowbed trailers. There was no looking back from then on as, pioneered by the economic growth of Singapore in the 1970s to 1990s, Kim Soon Lee's heavy equipment transportation wing grew rapidly. By the 1990s, it has become a household name among insiders in the heavy transportation market. In retrospect, the state of Singapore?s economy in the past 3 years mimick that of a roller coaster. Just while things start to look promising from mid 2007 and booming from early 2008, the economy of the island state suddenly turned for the worse from end 2008. By mid 2009, barely months later, Singapore looks well poised to experiencing the worst economic contraction since independence. Fortunately, continual adherence to the policy of pleasing customers and prudent financial control over the years has enabled us to ride through this ?coaster? relatively well thus far. The fact that the construction industry, the mainstay of Kim Soon Lee?s business, remained healthy has further ensured the stability of our businesses. A bold decision is therefore made to continue the expansionist programme of Kim Soon Lee, as in the previous years./p> In the transportation wing, Kim Soon Lee invested a record breaking 4 million dollars from mid 2008 to mid 2009, in the purchase of new vehicles and equipment to add on to as well as replace its ageing vehicles. By mid 2009, Kim Soon Lee?s total fleet of vehicles include 100 units of trailers, 75 units of lorry cranes, 50 units of prime movers, 10 units of 1.5 to 3 tonne trucks and 10 units of forklifts. Indeed, such fleet would rank as one of the biggest among its parallels in the industry. Of special mention among the above would be the purchase of a 5 axle multi axle modular trailer, capable of transporting single load of more than 100 tonnes, as well as the one-off purchase of 3 units of 75 tonnes lorry cranes, the biggest in capacity in Singap
