Nils Magnus Bugge and O.P. Olsen founded Bugge & Olsen AS in 1894. The firm owned several sailing ships and later also a considerable number of steamships. Their main operation was to deliver lumber and ice blocks to continental seaports. The firm P. A. Johannessen was founded in 1856 to dispatch and serve the domestic coastal ships that docked in Larvik. For several years both firms were run by the same administration and these were later joined into one firm called Bugge & Olsen AS. As from 1st of January 2003 Bugge & Olsen AS became a daughter company of During its more than hundred year history, Bugge & Olsen AS has been a very important contributor in the development of Larvik becoming a major international seaport. At the same time as they have been serving the general industry and shipping lines with all their needs. As early as 1972 Bugge & Olsen offered ro-ro service between Larvik and England. Today the firm is a modern and future oriented organisation, offering a wide range of services: Transport and cargo handling, document preparations, custom clearance, storage and terminal handling in addition to general shipbroker service.
